Deacon Board Meeting
March 25, 2008
Pastor Bob, John & Tammy Schweitzer, Jo Ann Gouin, Deb Howard, Janet Regner, Jean Detlaff, Marlee Christians, Tracey Campbell and Trish powers were present.
6:00PM Opening Prayer and Devotional: Pastor Bob-Acts 1:15 & 2:14 – Peter’s drastic change is encouraging for us – God can take our weaknesses and use them for His good – He redeems the old demeanor.
Review & Approval of last month’s minutes and
Review & Approval of Financial Report: M-Tammy S. 2nd-Marlee C. all approved. Janet will open new Sabbatical Account soon.
Old Business:
Ø Eric Szatkowski, Internet Dangers workshop update-very well received by all; the school officials were very approving
Ø Copy Machine for the office – purchased and working fine & networked-completed
Ø Greeters – losing people-Trish will send Jo Ann a list on Wednesday of possible greeters along with other ministry schedules
Ø Small Groups – need Parenting Study Leader-will revisit for fall
Ø Strategic Planning-Elders will be distributing surveys annually and we’ll work on the lowest scored area
Ø Banners – Marlee-completed
Ø Ordered a doorway theater for the puppet program for Children's Ministry – Janette-completed
Ø ‘Love and Respect’ Conference – Oct 10-1-Pastor Bob and Deb Miske discussed and a full
event is cost prohibitive. We may buy curriculum and have periodic studies. Bob and Carol may
teach in the fall, a weekend seminar.
Ø Office Computer difficulties discussed. Will cost $1000 to repair 3 office computers by Tony
at Computer Troubleshooters. Through several emails it was decided to purchase 2 new Dell
computers. Pastor Bob ordered them February 28, 2008. They are in and working fine and are
networked with Pastor Bob’s.-E Set Anti-virus also installed and will install on Library laptop.
Got a good discount from Christian dealer for protection for up to five machines.
Ø Time to re-do all background checks-All sent or handed out. Trish will call/email those not
yet received back.
Ø New projector replacement bulb or new projector – Pastor Bob - $600-$700 is actual cost and
was approved- Jeff Machmueller is checking on the best deal. Need it soon.
Ø Rummage Sale date – May 15-17-too much stuff coming in early. Trish will emphasize in
next week’s email to bring items to church in May if at all possible.
New Business:
Ø Naeir and its effectiveness-It was decided to not renew our subscription.
Ø Library - $300 – Tammy-Reading Program ends in two weeks. Need $$$ for the prizes. Over
30 kids (and some adults too) checked out books. $300 – M-Marlee C., 2nd-Jo Ann Gouin-all approved.
Ø Selling Flowers on Mother’s Day for Dodge County Right to Life-Order flowers from Rachel Heron. Trish will discuss options with her; bouquets or packages and different colors for set prices. Trish will make sign up sheets. Also put order forms in emails and Gazette
Ø AWANA (and other ministries) planning for next year/or eliminated (via

Ministry Updates:
Ø Small Group Ministry – New Brochures-Jean and Trish will work on this and get it out.
Ø AWANA – Entire Sparks program is changing and will be costly. Need to decide soon if we’ll keep doing AWANA. Gas is expensive for people to be traveling to church several times during the week. Should we combine Children’s Church and AWANA on Sunday mornings?
Ø Outreach-Pig Card Give-Away-some were hesitant, not used to getting things for free. Several great experiences. Received three “thank you notes”, Kurt and Jerry from the Pig were very impacted by this. We should encourage Gateway people to do random acts of kindness regularly (make up cards with a small explanation for us to have on hand).
Ø Outreach-Ready to give away more lapghans. Deb will be contacting Hospice for referrals or assistance.
