Deacon Board Meeting

October 23, 2007

Minutes

  

Pastor Bob Marsh, John Schweitzer, Melisa Gmirek, Deb Howard, Marlee Christians, Jean Detlaff, Janet Regner and Trish Powers were present.

 

6:00PM Opening Prayer and Devotional: Pastor Bob; Matthew 18 – Who will be the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?  Be careful and care for the little ones.

 

Review & Approval of September Minutes: M-Marlee C.; 2nd-Jean D.  All approved.

 

Review & Approval of Financial Report: M-Melisa G.; 2nd-Deb H.  All approved.

 

Old Business:

ุ        Eric Szatkowski, Internet dangers workshop update-Melisa and Marlee will do a front window display; event will be held February 28 for two hours (possibly at the middle school or the high school); the event will cost $600 and will be paid for by several Mayville churches.

ุ        Scrip Mortgage Drive – Trish will be sending a postcard out the week of November 12 to advertise Gateway Gift Cards and have a large amount of cards available at the Thanksgiving dinner in anticipation of the large shopping days ahead.

ุ        Library – offer Word of God Church resources to start a library – Tammy sent a letter to Pastor Lamar Davis – has not heard back yet

ุ        Marlee – two new banners @ $129 each – not purchased yet – funds are low

ุ        Copy Machine for the office – Trish will present three options at November meeting; Konica Minolta is bringing a new machine in for us to borrow for a week. 

ุ           GLBC Annual Meeting – four attended – fabulous; Pastor Bob and Marlee’s presentation was excellent; Next year’s meeting will be in Ashland the third weekend in October ’08

ุ        Library – Library Conference in Illinois, Oct 20, $200 – Tammy did not attend-driver needed

ุ        Blue Fish TV Media Ministry All Deacons and Small Group Leaders encouraged to view the new material.   

ุ        Recovery – should it continue? – Gary and Annette not present – no discussion

ุ        Greeters – losing people – Greeter’s Seminar November 10 in Appleton; Dino and Jo Ann will attend

ุ        Small Groups – need Parenting study leader and Basic Bible study leader

ุ       Women’s Leadership Seminar Update – excellent event – seven Gateway women attended

ุ        Strategic Planning – Pastor Bob and Stu Dix will be working on this

  

New Business:

ุ        Annual Business Meeting – November 11 with Fellowship Feast – each Deacon will share highlights from their ministry plan for 2008  

ุ        December Deacon meeting date changed to Dec 18th

ุ        2008 proposed budget passed out for viewing

ุ        Strategic Planning – hope to have 30 people take ministry survey in March and begin to work on a weak area in the fall

ุ        Operation Christmas Child boxes – collecting boxes Nov 12-18 at church and AWANA.  Melisa will get info to area radio and newspaper; front window will advertise also

ุ           Thanksgiving Dinner –prep work Wed at noon; set up Thursday 10am and serving at noon

  

 Ministry Updates:

ุ      Spiritual Gifts – Marlee and Pastor Bob spoke at GLBC Annual meeting and Marlee will be sharing with other churches about Spiritual Gifts  

ุ       Women’s Ministry – Oct 13 Time Management Seminar was well attended and successful; planning meeting Oct 25 with Chris Prouty sharing her missionary experiences in Australia 

ุ          Outreach – Sharing Lapghans at Winchester Place in Horicon on November 1 at 6:30pm – snacks, music, singing, bingo, and a short message.  Need more help – Deb will talk with Pastor Bob; Joyce Owens may be a good candidate for a Lapghan; pray over Lapghans this Sunday; Christmas giving plan under way – Small Groups may help

ุ       Gateway needs a Tech Person to advise when purchasing new equipment – announcement will go in the Gazette and the emails 

ุ         Spotlight on Ministry – (first Sunday of each month); ministries will have an opportunity to share what is happening with their ministry – one per month – Trish will arrange schedule

ุ         Glimpses pamphlets/brochures – should we get these - not at this time

ุ         The Word is God Church – Pastor Bob will be speaking there Friday night – meet at 5:15 at Gateway to carpool

ุ         Talked about Advent and Christmas services – Pastor Bob and Roy are working on it

ุ        Ministry display boards will be taken down and Marlee will fix them up and we’ll use them again in January
