Deacon Board Meeting Minutes

September 25, 2007

  

Jo Ann Gouin, Melisa Gmirek, Tracey Campbell, Robert Marsh, John Schweitzer, Trish Powers, Tammy Schweitzer, Deb Howard, Annette Schimming, Marlee Christians, Janet Regner, Jean Detlaff were all present.

 

6:00PM Opening Prayer and Devotional:  Pastor Bob; John 1 – John the Baptist was only a witness for the light – as we should be.  We should reflect the light as the moon reflects the sun.

 

Review & Approval of August Minutes: correction made to God’s Girls Revolve tour ($250 from Women’s Min & $200 from general) M-Melisa; 2nd-Jo Ann no discussion, all approved as amended.

 

Review & Approval of Financial Report: M – Jean D.; 2nd Annette; no discussion, all approved

 

Old Business:

       Naeir  - New Naeir Tools/Equipment – borrowing policy Trish will make a sign-out sheet.  No tools or other equipment will leave the building with out signing it out and notifying a Deacon/Elder

       Eric Szatkowski, Internet dangers workshop update-Melisa has emailed possible dates in Feb or March, possibly at the Middle School(if fees are waived), $600, all Mayville churches will be involved

       Scrip Drive – Fall effort to eliminate building mortgage via scrip sale-Bob and Trish will meet this week to discuss and plan a kick-off

       Outreach –  24 lapghans are ready w/ labels.  Will be going to Winchester Place, Horicon, in Oct and possibly to Clearview in the Spring.

                               - Christmas family giving; Deb will work with Jean D. and Small Groups to help families in need.

       Library – wants formal permission to offer Word of God Church resources to start a library; ie- 

               our duplicate books and a computer – Tammy is sending a letter to Word of God Church-approved if they accept.

       God’s Girls The Revolve Tour.  This tour will be in Minneapolis on Nov. 9-10 - $250 (+ $200) 10 girls & 3 ladies going – tickets purchased/$57 each

          Marlee - talk about the AWANA Store items.  Need guideline for purchases. Want to buy larger items or make a picture book of larger items that will become available (earn it first) t-shirts, bikes, music, books; check w/Janet on available budget; need lock on new AWANA closet door.    

       Review new starting time and other options-all fine

 

New Business:

        Marlee – requesting to purchase two new banners @ $129 each – OK; check w/Janet on budget first

         Tammy - Elders spending of money for the dinner without notifying the deacons of the 

                       expense.  – fair enough-done

        Tammy - discuss the lack of advanced notice and planning on events. – note taken-done

        Naeir – Placing order earlier to get more of the order – will be placing order next week

        Copy Machine for the office – Trish presented offer from Konica Minolta; will do more research on other options

        Any Deacons or Elders wish to attend the GLBC Annual Meeting in October 19/20 – Let Pastor Bob know TODAY if you plan to attend – discussed schedule

           Library – Tammy and two others to attend a Library Conference in Illinois, Oct 20, $200

                 approved if travel arrangements can be made; or purchase new shelves & books 

           Blue Fish TV Media Ministry-$199 inc I year of website downloads.  We should all view them and Pastor Bob will email us at the end of the 30 free trial period – OK pending email confirmation from Deacons

 

Ministry Updates:

      Melisa - OK to put twinkle lights in nursery? - yes  

      Recovery – Annette; finished with school; reported Gary said not many people attending/should we continue?

          Greeters – losing people

       Small Groups – need Parenting study leader

      New Member’s Class starting soon – Pastor Bob

      Strategic Planning – we should be doing it all again

      Next Volunteer Dinner – 1st Wed after AWANA-April 30, 08 – Elders will contact Deacons for their volunteer lists
