March 27, 2007 Minutes

 

ATTENDING:  JOHN SCHWEITZER, JOANN GOUIN, MARLEE CHRISTIANS, MELISA GMIREK, TRISH POWERS, LARRY LOWRIE, TAMMY SCHWEITZER, KARI SMALLEY, JANET REGNER, DINO CALARCO, DEB HOWARD, BOB MARSH

 

6:30 PM Opening Prayer and Devotional

Pastor Bob talked about the origin and vital role of deacons from Acts 6 & I Timothy 3

 

Review & Approval of February Minutes

Approval: Larry Lowrie motion / Kari Smalley second - carried

 

Financial Report:  Accepted as presented. 

Motion – John Schweitzer . Dino Calarco second – carried.

Reminder that we need to return $2500 to the Cornerstone fund when it is available, and it did not come out of Sabbatical account, but the savings account.

Church treasurer needs to be appointed by the Elders – to serve on the Deacon board.

 

Old Business:

Ø      Strategic Plan Report –

o       Updated strategic calendar needed – will be done by Bob and Trish by 4/10/07

Ø      Rummage Sale Update – Next Thur/Fri/Sat – set up after AWANA on 3/28/07

Ø      Children’s Ministry Leader Search

o       Need to ID new leaders ASAP – Probably wise to split the role between AWANA/ KIDS Church.  Bob will talk to Pastor Koch (CLF) regarding combined children/youth mid week ministries.

 

New Business:

Ø      Library request:  $200 expenditure - APPROVED

Ø      Children’s Ministry:  AWANA Awards - $100 - APPROVED

Ø      Dance Ministry:

o       Schedule – Should not be a problem in summer – no use of loft on Sat mornings.  Janet Regner mentioned use of School District Dance studio – Kari will check

o       Mirrors - $700 approx cost for 5’x15’ mirror in loft – south wall.

Ø      Bulb for downtown projector – lasts approx 8 years – we’re in the last hours of use

o       cost - $550.   APPROVED - PURCHASE WHEN NEEDED.

Ø      “Money for Moos” - “Change for Change”

o       challenge to raise money to purchase livestock for needy families/villages through Samaritan Ministries.  Coin collection at AWANA & Sunday mornings at church – presented this Wed to AWANA and Sunday to church.

Ø      Easter Breakfast - April 8 - 8:30-9:30 am –

o       Need servers, clean up, set up, food prep.

Ø      Volunteer Appreciation Dinner – May 2 – Audubon Inn –

o       Mark on calendar – all volunteers will be invited – RSVP will be required to attend.

Ø      National Day of Prayer – Community Prayer Breakfast – May 3 – Downtown Building –

o        We will provide egg casseroles, muffins, fruit, milk, coffee, donuts.  07:00-07:45

Ø      Computer for office

o       APPROVED UP TO $600 FOR BOB AND TRISH TO PURCHASE.

Ø      Clerk for Deacons –

o       No one volunteered.  Trish has expressed willingness to cover, but we would like someone who feels led to consider it.

Ø      Format for meetings (posting agendas, getting information to each other, financial needs)

o       no exceptions to the 2 week notice for agenda. (except emergencies).

o       Email is an acceptable format for communication

o       Agenda & minutes will be posted on the web.

 

Ministry Updates:

Ø       Discussion of the procedure for deposits of offerings on Sunday.  Janet does not like to have to wait until 8:30 to retrieve the deposit from the bank on Monday mornings.  Can it be brought to the church and locked there?  Further discussion is warranted and will take place between Bob, Janet, Trish and Elders.
